What is a Firewise Community?

Firewise communities were developed by the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), a private organization that has been around for more than a century. Originally, they focused on fire safe electrical standards and certifications.

The NFPA Firewise USA program was established in 2002 to help communities reduce wildfire risks and engage property owners in safety actions.
