Learn how to use the Wildfire-Ready Home Checklist to assess your home for defensible space and home hardening measures that meaningfully reduce a home’s wildfire risk.

Based on the program developed by the Insurance Institute for Business and Home Safety (IBHS) and CAL FIRE defensible space requirements. Taught by wildfire experts.

The workshop includes:

• How wildfires burn.
• How defensible space and home hardening actions work together to reduce your home’s risk from wildfire.
• How insurance companies use checklists for decisions on insuring homes and  discounts given.
• Practical steps to get started, and how to prioritize improvements.
• Zone 0 and what it means for Nevada County homes.
• How to use the checklist to conduct advisory assessments for yourself, neighbors and Firewise Communities.
• A field workshop at a neighborhood home

Individuals who attend the workshop and want to become Wildfire-Ready Home assessors to help other homeowners in Nevada County assess their homes will be given additional opportunities to learn how to use the checklist.
